Does MCP3002 need an input buffer op amp to read from pots and sensors? (GBTech)

I am wanting to use the MCP3002 ADC in my project. The data sheet recommends putting an op amp on the analog input. I understand the the performance can be affected by varying input impedance. But if I use a variable input resistance of 1k to 3K, it doesn..
